Antidepressant Mediactions

Panic attacks and how to get rid of them

Panic attacks, especially recurring ones can become a major blow to a person’s ego, if their root cause is something trivial (all the more). Anxiety and panic are not abnormal traits of the human psyche. But when they make their presence felt, at seemingly trivial and sometimes for no apparent reason, then this is a problematic situation of course. Sometimes the recurrence of panic attacks becomes so sever that they need to be categorized in a separate division called GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). A person whose anxiety has reached the GAD category is a chronic patient, and needs immediate medical attention. Lets look at some of the ways you can help yourself or another person suffering from this disease.

Do you or someone close to you suffer from GAD?

It is much easier to diagnose someone else when compared to diagnosing yourself of course, and if you are not confident about self-diagnosis, do get immediate help from a close friend or family member. Keep in mind that when we say diagnosis for anxiety attacks, we are only looking at working out if in fact a serious problem persists, following which no further medical treatment should be practiced without the intervention of a licensed practitioner. Going by the trial and error methods in an extreme case can result in dire consequences, and subsequent after affects. So here is how you judge the degree of seriousness of a panic attack – do the panic attacks have a pattern? For example do they hit you every time a common kind of social pressure is applied? In such case the degree of seriousness is somewhat less, and can definitely be cured by counseling and maybe mild drugs. On the other hand, if after observation you are unable to pinpoint a reason for the panic attacks, consult a doctor immediately. A professional may be able to work it out better than you. Also, the person in question may be suffering from physical ailments that cause anxiety symptoms like shortness of breath, rapid pulse and heavy breathing. Even tough a person suffering from GAD often feels like he or she is at the point of death itself, we cannot rule out the possibility that a genuine heart ailment may be the cause of such symptoms! In any case, when such symptoms persist, consult a medical practitioner ASAP.

Overcoming GAD

When you are constantly suffering from panic attacks, the smartest move you can make is to accept your condition of anxiety and stress to yourself and get professional help – although it may wound your ego – look on the bright side – once you are treated you will rid yourself of this menace for good. If you have a friend who suffers from GAD, he or she needs your understanding and emotional support through their period of treatment, and you need to be there for them. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping a loved one through a time of their need. And there is nothing more comforting than to have someone to lean on in your time of need.
